PORTLAND -- The Roosevelt High School football team will play its first home game on its brand new field Friday night.
The field was built with the help of Nike, the City of Portland and Portland Public Schools, as well as local donors, Roosevelt alumni and the Southlake Church.
The new football field is located at 6941 North Central Street. The official dedication ceremony will begin at 6:30 p.m. and then the Rough Riders will take on the La Grande High School Tigers in this season s first 2010 - 4A Playoff Game playoff game.
This project is emblematic of the way PPS, Roosevelt High School and the St. Johns community are coming together to support students and families in North Portland succeed in athletics, academics and in life, said Portland Public Schools Superintendent Carole Smith.
Nike is committed to supporting projects that promote access to sport, something that is part of our DNA, added Elliott Hill, Nike s Vice President and General Manager for North America. We are proud to be part of this inspiring community effort to provide student athletes with a world-class field in North Portland.
Part of the turf infill is made of a product called Nike Grind, which is premium grade rubber that has been reclaimed and refined from athletic shoes.
