PORTLAND -- An Oregon State Police detective who was charged with patronizing a prostitute while he was on duty Aug. 6 was sentenced to seven days of jail time Monday, officials said.

A woman who runs a nearby daycare reported seeing a man and woman having sex in some bushes off Southeast Johnson Creek Boulevard, according to the Clackamas County Sheriff s Office.

Deputies responded to the scene and discovered the man involved was 50-year-old detective Richard Narvaez, according to Lt. Gregg Hastings of the Oregon State Police.

Narvaez was on duty at the time but was not in uniform. The woman Narvaez was with, 32-year-old Tiffany Smith, was also arrested.

Narvaez was placed on unpaid leave after the charges were filed. He resigned Sept. 3, effective Aug. 31, Hastings said.

Narvaez pleaded guilty to one count of official misconduct. He will serve seven days in jail and 24 months probation, police said. He was also fined $100.
