BEND, Ore. -- Gov. John Kitzhaber has weighed in on a labor dispute at a Bend hospital, writing a letter critical of the hospital board's efforts to persuade workers to oust a union they voted for a year ago.

The Bend Bulletin reports that the CEO of the St. Charles Health System, Jim Diegel (dee-guhl), has objected, telling Kitzhaber in a letter that it's a local matter.

The Service Employees International Union won a close vote more than a year ago to represent about 600 employees, most in service and maintenance jobs.

A decertification vote had been scheduled for Wednesday.

That was delayed after the union filed an unfair labor practices complaint and the National Labor Relations Board began an investigation.
