WOODLAND, Wash. -- A Ridgfield man drowned after he fell from his boat into the Lewis River near Woodland Tuesday, police said.

Donald Kemper, 80, was the lone occupant of a small aluminum fishing boat near the Lewis River Golf Course, said Clark County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Fred Nieman.

Kemper was separated from his boat and was not wearing a life jacket, Nieman said.

There were no witnesses to the apparent accidental drowning. The CCSO marine unit was investigating.

Kemper was one of three people who have drowned in the Lewis River since Sunday, Nieman said.
