PORTLAND -- Neighbors on Southeast Caruthers near 146th Avenue are fed up. They're tired of what they describe as a constant stream of trouble connected to a house on that street.
It's just been a mess up there, said neighbor Shirley Perry.
It's horrible, neighbor Katriska Streeter added. There's people who lived inside of a mobile home that caught on fire there. They had tents in the front yard, they have no power.
Now they can add homicide to their list of criminal activity linked to the home.
Over the weekend, police said someone stabbed 44-year-old Victor Todd Howell at 14630 Southeast Caruthers.
Investigators said Sunday morning a woman, whom they're not calling a suspect, drove Howell to Portland Adventist Medical Center, where he died of his injuries.
On Monday, detectives searched the house for evidence and were trying to identify a suspect.
At this point, we just don't know enough, said Portland Police Sgt. Pete Simpson. We've put (Howell's) picture out there in hopes that someone will know him or what was going on, or if he had any problems with somebody.
Neighbors said problems near the house started about a year ago, citing mounds of trash, burglaries and more.
The people seem like they're on meth or some kind of drugs, said Streeter. Everybody just wants them to move on... somewhere else.
