SALEM The state of Oregon is looking at a proposal to ban smoking in state parks.
The proposal would limit smoking to personal vehicles, tents, RVs and campsites in developed overnight camping areas, according to Oregon State Parks.
The state said the proposed ban would help to reduce litter and protect natural resources. The ban would not be implemented on ocean shore parks.
The public is encouraged to comment and attend a Jan. 9 public meeting at Champoeg State Heritage Area, at 7 p.m. Others hearing were scheduled around the state. See a full list of public hearings here.
The public has until Jan. 17 to comment.
If passed, the ban would take effect March 1.
