PORTLAND In a plea for leniency in his upcoming sentencing, Mohamed Mohamud wrote a hand-written letter to judge Garr King, apologizing for plotting to bomb downtown Portland.
This is the first time the public has heard from Mohamud since he was convicted of planning to bomb a Christmas tree lighting ceremony at Portland s Pioneer Courthouse Square in 2010.

My actions on November 26th were terrible. To think back to that day fills me with horror. I keep asking myself, Is that really me on the tape?' Mohamud wrote in the letter.
Mohamud faces a maximum term of life in prison. His sentencing is scheduled for Sept. 6.
