TILLAMOOK -- Twenty-four-year-old Jacob Green from Newport was the only person responsible for the death of 16-year-old Kayla Hendrickson who was found dead on Highway 6 last week, police said.
Investigators identified Hendrickson after an autopsy Sunday morning that also revealed her death was caused by gunshot wounds, said Lt. Gregg Hastings with Oregon State Police.
Green died Saturday after shooting himself in Humboldt County, Calif. Investigators said Green and Hendrickson knew one another, but would not elaborate on their possible relationship.
At around 10:15 p.m. Friday, a witness told police that a full-sized late 1980s or early 1990s pickup truck was stopped on the north shoulder of the westbound lane of the highway between milepost 18 and 19.
Green's vehicle reportedly matched the one seen by witnesses.
