MOLALLA, Ore. -- A bicyclist was critically injured after he collided with a pickup truck Thursday along Highway 211, just east of Molalla, police said.

The accident happened just before 8 a.m. Investigators said the bicyclist, a 44-year-old man, was riding westbound along Highway 211 near S. Vaughan Road when he suddenly turned left into the path of the truck.

The pickup's driver, Victor Maxfield, 32, from Molalla, wasn't able to avoid the bicyclist and struck him, according to Oregon State Police. Investigators also said there were indications that the bicyclist may have been drinking alcohol before the crash.

The bicyclist was flown in a LifeFlight helicopter to Oregon Health & Science University in critical condition. His name has not yet been released, pending notification of relatives.

Maxfield was not injured, police said.

The highway was closed for about 45 minutes during the investigation.
