SEATTLE-- One week after being jailed and charged with assaulting her own family members, soccer star Hope Solo returned to Seattle Reign FC squad Saturday, but did not play in the game against Sky Blue FC.
Solo, who pleaded not guilty last week and apologized for her actions on social media, was eligible to play for her team for the first time since the arrest.
Withanear sellout crowd at Memorial Stadium looking on, Solo spent the game on the bench with her teammates while fans cheered in support.
She's been a world-class goalkeeper, said Amanda Schaufler, She's from the area which is awesome.
But it's not the first incident of hers that has happened, she continued, I'm a little less likely to say, 'Oh, forget about it, it's no big deal.'
Members ofa youth soccer team from Dallas,Tex. sitting high up in the stands echoed that feeling of regret they could not see Solo play. However, that itself was a lesson for the players.
To be responsible and have self control, commented fellow goalkeeper Leah Archer, It's shocking.
The game finished 0-0. The Reign is back in action in Seattle on July 6th. Solo is scheduled to be back in court in August.
