ALOHA, Ore. -- An Aloha 7-Eleven clerk was severely beaten and hospitalized Monday night for questioning two men who failed to pay for their Big Gulps, deputies said.
Deputies were called just after 9:30 p.m. to the report of an assault and robbery at 17771 SW Tualatin Valley Highway.
At the scene, they learned two men went in to get sodas and walked out without paying, said Sgt. Bob Ray of the Washington County Sheriff's Office.
A store clerk went outside and told the men to come inside and pay for the drinks, Ray said. Both men returned to the store and reportedly became increasingly uncooperative and belligerent with the clerk.
Ray said 20-year-old Luis Thomas Mercado-Rosas, of Aloha, started punching the clerk and knocked him to the ground. Alejandro Loarca-Bautista, 21, from Cornelius, then reportedly kicked the man several times before the two ran off.
A co-worker called 911 and the clerk was taken to a nearby hospital with substantial head injuries, Ray said.
With the help of witnesses, deputies found the suspects at a nearby apartment complex. They were both jailed on several charges, including robbery and assault.
