PORTLAND A Franklin High School student brought a loaded handgun to school Tuesday to settle a drug dispute, police said.

A witness reported seeing a student displaying a handgun to a group of people at the Burger King on Southeast Foster Road and Powell Boulevard around noon, according to Sgt. Pete Simpson of Portland police.

After learning the names of the students, police contacted the school. The boys were called to the school s office and officials found a loaded handgun in a student s pocket.

Investigators learned that two 14-year-old boys had a dispute over a drug transaction.

One of the students stole his parents handgun and brought it to school. He planned to use it to demand his money back from the alleged drug dealer, Simpson said.

The 14-year-old boy gave the gun to a 15-year-old student at the Burger King. Both students were arrested for unlawful possession of a firearm.
