PORTLAND - Nominations are out and once again for the James Beard Awards and Portland is well-represented.
Winning a Beard is icing on the cake.
Twelve Portland chefs and two restaurants are in the running.
The long list is out now and will be cut to a final list next month.
Ken Forkish, of Ken's Artisan on Northwest 21st has been nominated several times for best bakery.
For the sixth time, Toro Bravo restaurant on NERussell has been nominated for best chef.
Open for one year this coming April, Ox got two nominations. Best chefs for husband and wife team Greg and Gabi Denton and also a best nod for their restaurant on NEMLKBlvd.
It's always an honor to be on such a list, Greg Denton said. To be mentioned with James Beard and all the chefs that are on that list, it's a huge honor, humbling and slightly intimidating. It's pretty cool.
The finalist will be announced March 18th in New York City.
Beard was born in Portland. He is considered the one person most responsible for establishing the gourmet American food identity.
