WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. Most students have to adhere to rules about what they can wear in class, but should their parents also have to follow a dress code when attending school events?

A school board member in Florida thought so. She put the question up for a vote in West Palm Beach after noticing some parents at school events wearing short shorts, revealing tops, saggy pants and even pajamas.

We have to make an adjustment, because what we do has a major impact on our children, said school board member Rosalind Osgood.

Even students took notice. Some said they wanted parents to be held to the same standards as their kids.

Board members against the proposed parent dress code worried that it might discourage parents from getting involved in their kids school events.

I want to be clear that regardless of what they are wearing, I want them to do their best with what they can do and be so supportive of their children, said school board member Marcia Andrews.

The proposal was eventually voted down in Florida, but not before sparking a national debate.
