CLACKAMAS, Ore. -- A Sherwood man died after going into the Clackamas River after his dog near High Rocks, officials said Monday.

A witness reported at 2:25 p.m. that the man was underwater, according to Clackamas Fire and Rescue spokesman Brandon Paxton. Crews arrived and pulled the unconscious man from the river just before 3 p.m.

Jack W. Davies, 61, was taken by ambulance to Willamette Falls Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Witnesses told police he went into the water after his dog and quickly went underwater. He was located by divers about half an hour after disappearing. The dog made it safely to shore.
