PORTLAND -- A bomb squad was called in to investigate a possible explosive device outside Portland City Hall Thursday morning, police said.
Police were called just after 9:30 to the report of a suspicious device at Southwest 4th Avenue and Madison Street, according to Portland Police Chief Mike Reese.
Officers at the scene found what appeared to be a water bottle wrapped in black tape near some newspaper boxes. They called in the Metropolitan Explosives Disposal Unit to investigate.
The device was removed just after 10:30 a.m. There were no evacuations and only pedestrian traffic in the area was affected temporarily.
