CLATSKANIE, Ore. -- A coffee shop is giving a portion of their sales to a family mourning the loss of a man who died rescuing his son.

LastSaturday, 35-year old Brant Hicks jumped into the water after his 2-year old fell out of their boat.

Thursday all proceeds from the sale of 16 oz. hot coffee drinks at Flowers N Fluff were donated to the Hicks family in Brant s memory.

Clatskanie is a community known for taking care of its own and it shows in the support from friends and people stopping by the shop. Customers trickled to the shop all morning and afternoon to help.

Owner Sherri Lumijarvi said the shop had raised $1,882 for the family by Friday morning, and people continued to drop off donations.

The community was amazing. They came together and it was the people that participated in this who were the reason it happened; it had nothing to do with us, Lumijarvi said.

Hicks managed to get his son back in the boat but he disappeared underwater. Searchers recovered his body several hours later. Authorities say he was not wearing a life vest but his young son was.

A public memorial for Brant Hicks is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday at Clatskanie High School. People were urged to arrive early because it was expected to be full.

Donations can be made to any US Bank under "Brant Hicks Donation Childrens’ Fund."
