PORTLAND -- A 20-year-old man was seriously injured in a gang-related shooting outside a Northeast Portland elementary school Friday evening, police said.
Police were called at about 6:30 p.m. to the shooting at Rose City Park, near NE 64th Avenue and NE Tillamook Street, according to Sgt. Pete Simpson of the Portland Police Bureau.
Officers at the scene found Marquis Glover, of Northeast Portland, suffering from gunshot wounds. He was taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries that police did not believe were life-threatening.
Glover was playing basketball at Rice Elementary School's outdoor courts, when he got into a fight with the suspect, Simpson said. The suspect pulled out a gun and fired multiple times at Glover.
The suspect was described as an African-American man in his late teens or early 20s, wearing a white t-shirt and blue jeans. He left the area in red car.
Officers are continuing to interview lots of witnesses who were at Rose City Park for various athletic events, Simpson said.
Detectives from the gang enforcement team were investigating. This was Portland's 36th gang-related shooting in 2012.
Anyone with information about the shooting was asked to call (503) 823-3333.
