PORTLAND, Ore. -- Whomever assaulted a man at NW 6th Avenue and NW Everett Street in downtown Portland last month could now face homicide charges after the victim was taken off life support Thursdsay, police said.

Just after 5:30 a.m. on December 31, police found 40-year-old Robert Williams bleeding heavily. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

He died Thursday, police said.

Detectives said Tuesday they think more than one person was involved in the assault that has left the victim in a coma. Police said Williams might have been in the area for several hours before the assault.
