SALMON CREEK, Wash. – Veterinarians are trying to save four-sick kittens that were found abandoned outside a Fred Meyer store in Salmon Creek, Wash.

The kittens were inside a box that was placed next to a trash can. Someone heard the kittens meowing and found the box.

They took the kittens to the Companion Pet Clinic, where vets are working to keep them alive.

One of the kittens died a short time later, authorities said. All of the others were suffering from dehydration.

Staff at the pet clinic took the kittens home Wednesday night so they could monitor them closely and bottle feed them.
