PORTLAND -- Crews were called to a fire at North Portland's Open Meadow alternative high school Monday afternoon, fire officials said.
Students were evacuated at about 2:30 p.m. when smoke was reported in the basement of the school at 7654 N Crawford St., said Portland Fire & Rescue spokesman Lt. Rich Chatman.
Crews at the scene confirmed the smoke and heat in the basement of the converted three-story, 1910 Victorian home, Chatman said. A second alarm was called in, but additional crews were pulled back shortly afterward.
No injuries were reported.
Portland Public Schools spokeswoman Christine Miles said Tuesday that about 110 students were displaced. The students will return to class at 8:45 a.m. Thursday at the site of Harriet Tubman Middle School.
There will be an open house at Tubman Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 for parents and students.
Investigators did not yet find the cause of the fire or estimate the damage.
