PORTLAND – People called 911 to report a man sitting in a car and holding a handgun in the Oregon Zoo parking lot Sunday but no one was injured and a suspect was arrested.

Several officers responded to the area and located 29-year-old Ryan Alexander Stratford sitting in a black 2005 Volkswagen Jetta in the parking lot.

Stratford was arrested without incident and officers said they found two replica firearms in his car, according to Sgt. Pete Simpson with the Portland Police Bureau. The weapons were plastic BB guns with detachable magazines.

A small amount of marijuana was also seized from Stratford’s vehicle, Simpson said.

Stratford was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and possession of marijuana. He was booked into the Multnomah County Jail.

Police commended community members for alerting dispatchers of the suspicious behavior, even though this case did not turn out to be more serious.
