GIFFORD PINCHOT NATIONAL FOREST Two hikers who got stranded in snow on Mt. Adams were rescued Tuesday night.
Matt Margiotta and his hiking partner, Kyla Arnold, were hiking the Pacific Crest Trail north of Trout Lake when they became stuck in the snow and called 911 for help. They were found by a Coast Guard helicopter crew and airlifted to safety early Tuesday evening, according to Skamania County Undersheriff Dave Cox.
The pair had planned to hike the Pacific Crest Trail from Mexico to Canada. They were in good condition when rescuers reached them and did not require hospitalization, Cox said.
Two other hikers remain missing on Mt. Adams in unrelated incidents.
Kristopher Zitzewitz, 31, of Portland -- who goes by the name Indy -- has been missing since Saturday in the Goose Lake area, Cox said.
Alejandre Wilson, 23, was reported missing by her father Monday. She was hiking the Pacific Crest Trail, headed toward White Pass, and has not made her scheduled check-in, Cox said.
Two separate search efforts continue for those two hikers.
