SALEM, Ore. -- Prosecutors have dropped charges against the Salem man responsible for a Hawaii-bound airplane s turn back to Portland in January.
Joe Johnson must perform community service and write an apology to Hawaiian Airlines, according to the Oregonian.
Johnson wrote a comment card to a flight attendant asking what would happen if the plane were to rip apart in mid-air.
The incident occurred shortly after a Christmas Day terror attack in Detroit that led to ramped-up transportation security nationwide.
Johnson said the comment card was meant as a joke.
