KEIZER, Ore. -- A Keizer man who pleaded guilty to one count of murder was sentenced to life in jail Tuesday.
Court documents showed that Peter Zielinski, 39, admitted to police that he shot his wife, 38-year-old Lisa Zielinski, after he reportedly learned she had cheated on him.
Police have described the Jan. 12 killing as a domestic violence attack. Dr.LarryLewman with the OregonMedical Examiner's office said Zielinski died of a gunshot wound to the brain.
Peter Zielinski told detectives that once he confirmed that his wife was having an affair, an intense discussion followed in the minutes after Lisa got home.
Peter suspected she had been at another man's apartment. He told a detective he took a shower then hugged his wife, noting a look of disgust on her face. Peter said he then planned to get a glass of water, but instead retrieved his loaded .40 caliber from the bedroom closet.
Keizer Police said Zielinski contacted police after calling an after-hours 9-1-1 dispatch phone to request an ambulance for his wife Lisa just after 7 a.m.
Lisa worked for KYKN radio in Salem in their marketing and sales departments. Her boss said Lisa was always a ray of sunshine in their office.
When she walked in a room, her presence just lifted the room ... (it) seems so wrong, station owner Mike Frith said.
Zielinski will face a minimum of 25 years in prison.
