ROSEBURG, Ore. Amid reports of nationwide mismanagement within the Department Veterans Affairs, one Oregon Army veteran is pointing the finger at the Roseburg VA office.
Jesse Sankokirchen has a rare form of blood cancer.
He said the VA hospital in Portland was great at diagnosing his problem. But when it came to his follow-up care, he said the Roseburg hospital turned him away.
He said the delay worsened his lung damage.
When the Army asks us to go do things, we don't get the chance to say no, you know, they're orders, Sankokirchen said. They send us to faraway places to do bad things for them and when we come home...this isn't like free health care we're asking for, this is in our contract.
He's now working with the Oregon Health Plan.
A Roseburg VA spokesperson said patient privacy rules won't let the hospital release any details on the case.
