PORTLAND -- When Pastor Steve Paulson of Greater Grace Church showed up to work Thursday, the front door to the office building at Southeast 162nd Street was kicked open.

This has happened a couple of times before, so I backed off and called police, said Paulson.

Turns out the burglar hit the night before and took the church safe, which was not bolted to the floor.

There's potentially sensitive documents in there and it would give us a lot of peace of mind to have them back, said Paulson.

A security camera system may help police find those documents.

The camera caught the man breaking in at about 8:45 p.m. Wednesday night. The cameras show the suspect going from room to room for about 12 minutes before he found the 150-pound safe. He couldn't pick it up, so he slid it down the hall, while looking straight into the camera.

In fact, the suspect spent several minutes in the office that contained the entire camera security system, but somehow he failed to spot the camera.

Police hope the security footage will help them catch those responsible.

Anyone who recognizes the suspect was asked to call Portland police.
