SEASIDE, Ore. -- Dozens of protesters showed up in Seaside Monday to rally against a message shared at the Oregon Department of Education s Adolescent Sexuality Conference.
The conference was promoted as an event to focus on sexual health and healthy relationships. But some believe the conference topics were too mature for minors.
I can sum it up in one word. We re looking for accountability, protester Mike Kelly said Monday. There s not been very much accountability at all levels through this conference and maybe throughout the comprehensive sex education program through the state.
About a quarter of the 300 people at the conference are high school and college students. Anyone under 18 has to have a parent's permission to attend and has to be chaperoned.
The conference continues Tuesday.
