BURLINGTON, Wash. (AP) -- The Interstate 5 Skagit River bridge has been named after Washington State Patrol Trooper Sean O'Connell who died in a collision while detouring traffic.

Washington Gov. Jay Inslee, state lawmakers, Patrol Chief John Batiste, and members of O'Connell's detachment and family attended a ceremony Friday on the Burlington side of the bridge. The signed the back of signs the Transportation Department prepared to identify the bridge in memory of the fallen trooper.

O'Connell was killed when his motorcycle collided with a truck as he was detouring traffic about a week after a section of the bridge collapsed in the river. A temporary span was erected in about a month and a permanent replacement over the summer.
