NEW YORK, NY -- A new study found that texting may be to blame for many people who struggle with getting a good night s sleep.
The study, recently published in the journalPsychology of Popular Media Culture, linked the sending and receiving of text messages to poor sleep patterns.
Researchers surveyed 83 college students for the study. They learned that people who send out many text messages throughout the day feel a pressure to respond to replies, even if they come in the middle of the night.
The authors of the study also found that people often sleep too close to their phones. They said buzzing and ringing late at night can disturb a person s deep sleep, even if they don t wake up.
Experts advised putting phones in the Do Not Disturb mode overnight.
