GRESHAM, Ore. -- A man wanted for robbing several taxi drivers at knifepoint was arrested Thursday, police said.
Eric Deshaunte Russell, 29, turned himself in after his alleged crimes received extensive media coverage, said Lt. Claudio Grandjean with Gresham police.
Russell was wanted for robbing four taxi drivers in east Portland. He is also suspected of robbing Broadway Cab drivers on March 24, June 7 and June 13. In each case, he would threaten the driver with a knife at the end of a short ride, said John Rasmussen with Gresham police.
On June 16, he reportedly got into a Green Cab and forced the driver to pull over after one block. He then made the driver walk down the street at knifepoint until the driver escaped and Russell ran away, Rasmussen said.
None of the drivers was injured. Two smartphones and an unknown amount of money were taken in the robberies.
