PORTLAND -- Guns used by John Wayne and William Holden were stolen Tuesday afternoon from a locked display case at the Movie Madness video store in Southeast Portland.

Portland police are asking for the public's help in locating 47-year-old Erick Johnson in connection with the theft of the guns, said Sgt. Pete Simpson with the Portland Police Bureau.

Johnson, who has a warrant out for a parole violation, was identified as a suspect through tips form the public after surveillance video and photos were released by investigators, Simpson said.

The Winchester used by Wayne in The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance and a shotgun used by Holden in The Wild Bunch were taken after a thief broke the glass of display cases.

Movie Madness, a favorite of Portland film fans for years, has a number of vintage movie items in locked display cabinets.

Johnson was described as a balding white male who is 5-foot-7 with blue eyes. He rode away from the store on a dark-colored mountain bike.
