PORTLAND -- Two shootings were reported within 12 minutes Friday afternoon in Northeast Portland, police said.
Police were called at about 12:40 p.m. to the report that shots were fired at a vehicle near Northeast Fremont Street and 81st Avenue.
Officers checked the area for both the suspect and the vehicle but neither was located in the area, said Portland police Sgt. Pete Simpson. The suspect was described as an African-American male in his 20s, medium build, short hair, carrying a handgun. The vehicle is described as a black newer foreign car.
Then, at 12:52 p.m. another shooting was reported, near Northeast 45th Avenue and Broadway.
Several officers checked the area but did not find any evidence of a shooting.
Witnesses told police the suspect was a light-skinned African-American man, 18 or 19 years old, 5-foot-6, with a stocky build, Simpson said.
The suspect reportedly ran through a Department of Human Services building and fled the area.
Investigators do not know if the two incidents were related. Anyone with information was asked to call the police non-emergency line at 503-823-3333.
