GOLD HILL, Ore. (AP) A 94-year-old Southern Oregon woman has run afoul of a recent law that requires drivers to prove they're U.S. citizens to be licensed.
The problem is that Helen Mary Thomas was born in rural Tennessee, and no birth certificate was issued.
The Medford Mail Tribune reports (http://is.gd/lgiFSm) the law preventing her license renewal was passed in 2008.
She says she's still a good driver and needs to drive to live in her Southern Oregon town, Gold Hill. She's a widow, and her children don't live nearby.
In May, state workers advised her to ask Social Security for information that could help her demonstrate when and where she was born. She did that in June but hasn't yet gotten the information and her temporary license expires next month.
