GRESHAM The two teen suspects arrested for killing a man and injuring another in a Gresham park appeared in court Monday.
Police arrested Brian Hernandez-Cardona, 17, on Saturday night after finding a .357 revolver in his backpack with six spent shell casings still inside.
Reynaldo Antonio-Ceja, 15, was arrested Sunday. According to court documents, Antonio-Ceja admitted to police that he was the one who shot both men Saturday night.
A probable cause affidavit showed that the suspects confronted a group of people playing basketball at Red Sunset Park in Gresham and asked them what gang they belonged to. When the group ignored the teens, the suspects fired a gun toward them.
Paulino Venacio-Lopez died at the scene. Police found another victim, Omar Merenio-Lopez, wounded at a nearby hospital.
Venacio-Lopez's wife, Diana, said she did not know why her husband was shot.
All he was doing was playing basketball and worrying about working and taking care of his kids, she said. Venacio-Lopez had a 1-year-old daughter and 3-year-old son.
Neither suspect spoke during Monday's hearings. They are due back in court next week.
Both suspects are being charged with murder and assault and are lodged in a juvenile detention center.
