PORTLAND -- Many departing flights scheduled for Friday morning were showing delayed times due to an in-ground fuel pump failure.
The fuel pump was repaired Friday morning around 11 a.m.
Some planes were being refueled with tanker trucks, according to Port of Portland spokesman Steve Johnson.
Others were being diverted to nearby airports for fuel, according to Southwest Airlines spokeswoman Michelle Agnew.
This morning, roughly 16 originating flights had sufficient fuel to divert to a nearby airport, for example Seattle or Boise, to fuel up and continue on to the original destination, she said.
She said those flights saw delays of up to three hours.
Other delays were listed at about 20 minutes for every airline, Johnson said.
