PORTLAND -- A 28-year-old felon was arrested in Portland Wednesday after attempting to sell firearms on Facebook, police said.
Investigators were alerted to a post on Kyle Quinn Culley's Facebook page advertising guns for sale, according to Portland Police Bureau Sgt. Pete Simpson. Police then confirmed that Culley was a convicted felon.
An undercover officer arranged to buy the guns and then the PPB Gun Task Force served a search warrant at a location in the 8400 block of Southeast Insley Street, Simpson said.
Four guns were seized and Culley was jailed on four counts each of unlawful possession of a firearm and felon in possession of a firearm. He had been previously convicted on several felony charges, including kidnapping and coercion.
Simpson said it's not necessarily illegal to sell guns via social media, though the rules vary by state and by website. But it is illegal for a felon to possess a firearm.
This is a fairly unique case, Simpson said, but certainly social media is an evolving area for criminal enterprise and for police investigation.
Culley told investigators he was trying to sell the guns for his roommate, according to court documents.
