PORTLAND -- A Portland factory announced it will be laying off 350 employees over a three-month period this summer.
Portland's Siltronic Fab 1 plant, at 7200 NW Front Avenue, will begin the layoffs on July 1 and they will continue through September 30, according to the company's president, Neil Nelson. A notice was sent the Oregon Dislocated Worker Unit on March 21.
Roberts said 249 of the 350 layoffs at the silicon wafer factory will be production operator positions.
The announcement was made one day before a chemical explosion at the plant injured two workers.
