PORTLAND Occupy activists were camping out in front of Portland's City Hall Monday, after a march and rally to protest the city s camping ban the day before.
The rally started at about 4 p.m. Sunday, with dozens of supporters rallying to end the ban they said negatively affects the city s homeless population.
One Occupy protester told KGW most people he knows have been homeless at one point, as has he, and the city needs to repeal the ban.
Background: Occupy Portland
If you don't have access to already over-capacity houseless services in the city, then you're at risk of being arrested should you put up any structure to protect yourself from the rain, said David O Bryant. And that's utterly ridiculous.
The group also had a sleepover at Portland City Hall. Portland police officers were monitoring protesters and said no structures would be allowed. As of 9:30 a.m., less then 20 protesters remained.
