PORTLAND -- On a wet, cold evening in Northeast Portland, family and friends of Yashanee Vaughn marched from a place that harbors terrible memories.
It's like the pain all over again, said Yashanee's mother, Shaquita Louis. It's like a nightmare.
One year ago, on March 19, Yashanee vanished. Investigators said she was killed in a home on NERussel, then dumped at Rocky Butte. Her body would be found several months later.
When I wake up I pray, said Yashanee's grandmother, Reynelda Hayes. Ithink about her always.
Police arrested Yashanee's boyfriend, Parrish Bennette. He was charged with her shooting death.
It's been real rough, said Louis. I'm not going to stop until I find the person who did that with Parrish.
Yashanee's family believes somebody helped Parrish, whether it was to kill Yashanee or hide her body.
We know Parrish did it, said Hayes. We know he had help.
Detectives are not ruling out the possibility that someone else is involved in the case, but that is of little consolation to the family of the girl, who continue to mourn her senseless death.
I miss everything about my daughter, said Louis. To carry her for nine (months) and someone takes her life - it's not fair.
Bennette will be tried this July as an adult.
Apolice spokesperson told KGW the case is still open. If you have information you are urged to call authorities.
