NEWBERG, Ore. -- A man stole several handguns from the Fred Meyer store in Newberg Wednesday night, police said.

The suspect apparently broke in to a locked case just after 9 p.m., grabbed the guns and stuffed them in a backpack he had also stolen from the store, said Newberg-Dundee police Capt. Jeff Kosmicki.

The man then ran out of the store and police have not located him.

Based on witness and surveillance footage (pictured, above) the suspect appears to be a white or Hispanic male adult with a medium build, wearing dark clothes to include a beanie or watch cap, Kosmicki said.

Police know the makes, models and serial numbers of the stolen guns, but will not release the information while the investigation is under way. They did send out a picture of the stolen backpack (below).

Anyone with information about this crime was asked to call the Newberg Dundee Police Department at 503-538-8321.
