OAK GROVE, Ore. -- Whether retirement is knocking on your door or yours is years away, the top places to spend your golden years are changing.
Forbes Magazine is out with it's yearly list and Beaverton and Oak Grove made the Top 25 this time around. Both areas are pretty similar. They are about nine miles from Portland and transportation is a big draw.Light Rail is also under construction in Oak Grove.
The sizes of these two communities are easy to manage, according to Forbes. The median price of a home is in the mid to high 200's and the cost of living is relatively low.
What's interesting is that among the Top 25, most suburbs on the list are not in the sunbelt states.
It's the new way people are redefining how, when and where they will call home in retirement.
I came from Phoenix most recently and have lived in the Northwest. I want to live here, said Jim Martin, Chair for the Oak Grove Community Council.
Other factors in determining the top retirement suburbs include living expenses, taxes, nearby hospitals, serious crime, air quality, weather and higher education for late-in-life enrichment.
