PORTLAND -- An outdoor adventure at Portland Children s Museum opened appropriately on Tuesday Earth day.
This is a teaser to get kids enjoying the outdoors, said Executive Director Ruth Shelly.
Extensive trails, a kid-safe creek and a simulated campground now cover an acre that was once an unused hillside.
We now have three times the space outdoors for activities than we have indoors, remarked Shelly.
The outdoor adventure area is part of a $2.6 million transformation.
The project also includes the Zany Maze, which opened two years ago.
On rainy days everyone tends to come to the museum and on sunny days, they go to the Zoo. Now there are two [outdoor] options in Washington Park for parents to enjoy with their kids, concluded Shelly.
To access the new exhibit, visitors must pay the $10 admission fee and enter through the museum.
Annual memberships are also available for between $80 and $150.
