KRASNAYA POLYANA, Russia Bend s Laurenne Ross and Aurora s Jacqueline Wiles have both earned downhill starts at the Sochi Olympics during Saturday s downhill training run, the US Ski Team reports.

Wiles missed a gate high on the run, but still finished fifth to earn her first Olympic start in the downhill event, scheduled for Feb. 12 in Sochi.

I came out of the start charging, but the third gate came up there were a couple bumps, Wiles said. I wasn t able to make the next right-footed double. But that kind of lit something in me after that, so I just sent it.

Ross, who finished fourth, said she is feeling confident on her skis.

I m really liking this hard snow, enjoying the ice. Being a part of the downhill team will mean a lot to me, she said.
