PORTLAND -- The first part of a weekend storm system moved into the Metro area overnight, knocking out power to about 11,000 PGE customers.

Another round of high winds and potentially heavy rain arrived late Saturday morning and continued through the day.

The National Weather Service issued a Wind Advisory the Portland area and the valley, effective from midnight until 10 a.m. Saturday.

Wind knocked a tree onto a mini van early Saturday on Southeast Harold Street. No one was hurt but lanes were closed as crews worked to clean up the debris.

Wind also knocked a large fir tree into a home at Southeast 47th Street Saturday morning (pictured). Three people were in the home when the tree crashed onto the roof, puncturing a hole in the home. No one was injured.

All of Friday's warnings and advisories remained unchanged Saturday with winds remaining gusty in Portland and the Willamette Valley through the day.

The Portland Bureau of Transportation was busy Saturday after heavy rain and wind caused some downed limbs and other hazards in the roadway.

Winds at the coast reached 75 mph with 35 foot swells battering the beaches, according to KGW Meteorologist Jim Donovan.

A Winter Storm Warning in the Cascades brought the snow level down to 2,500 feet Saturday with two feet of fresh snow falling on the mountains.

KGW Meteorologist Rod Hill said the storm will likely bring more rain to Portland than any other weather system since late September.

Donovan said showers will continue Sunday with light rain Monday and dry weather should return the rest of next week.
