PORTLAND A hit-and-run driver was arrested for DUII Thursday after plowing into a pedestrian in a crosswalk in Southwest Portland, deputies said.

Just after 5 p.m., a man told deputies he was crossing the street near Catlin Gable School at Southwest Barnes Road and Southwest 88th Street when he was hit by a Honda CRV, according to Sgt. David Thompson with the Washington County Sheriff s Office.

The 27-year-old victim said he tried to jump out of the way but was hit, thrown into the air, and landed on the car, shattering the windshield. The driver stopped briefly but then left the scene, Thompson said.

The victim s injuries were not thought to be life threatening.

A witness got the license plate and police later tracked down and arrested 59-year-old Patrick Jones of Beaverton (pictured). Jones was booked in the Washington County Jail on DUII, reckless driving, hit-and-run, and assault.

His bail was set at $20,000.
