OREGON CITY, Ore. The suspect in an Oregon City kidnapping was captured and arrested Saturday night, deputies said.
Kelsey McCune, 40, was booked overnight in the Clackamas County Jail after he was found along with a missing 13-year-old Oregon City girl in a wooded area north of a mobile home park Saturday evening, deputies said.
Deputies and the SWAT team resumed their search for the Samantha Dodson around 4:30 p.m. after getting what they called a credible tip from a witness who saw her McCune near South Maple Lane Road and South Country Village Drive, said Sgt. Nate Thompson with the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office.
Authorities originally thought Dodson had run away Tuesday night, but on Friday evening, deputies issued a warrant of McCune s arrest on a kidnapping charge. McCune is a transient who is reportedly a friend of the Dodson family and even spent Thanksgiving with them.
McCune is facinig kidnapping, sexual abuse, and rape charges.
Tips poured in and authorities were diligently searching for Dodson as a bitter cold snap set in this week.
Overnight Saturday, temperatures dipped below 20 degrees with Sunday morning temperatures expected to fall as low as 10 degrees, which was particularly concerning because the two were thought to be camping.
Federal authorities joined the search for Dodson Wednesday, and on Thursday morning, SWAT crews were called in to back up more in-depth search efforts in Oregon City, said Sgt. Robert Wurpes with the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office.
Authorities urged news outlets and the public to use the hashtag #FindSamantha on Twitter and Facebook to get the word out on social media.
Dodson's Oregon City family held a press conference Thursday pleading for her to come home.
Sammie, your mom and dad are worried about you. Your brothers and sisters are worried about you. Your friends are worried about you and you can't be out there in that cold, said her sister, Sarah Dodson. Please call us or call 911 and let us know you're safe.
