PORTLAND - An abandoned gas station has been turned into an earth-friendly community center at 5940 North Albina St., across from Peninsula Park.

Twenty years in the planning and execution, the June Key Delta Center features solar roof panels and construction done with recycled materials. It has achieved the distinction of being a net zero energy structure. The solar portion was funded by the Pacific Power.

The effort was guided members of the Delta Sigma Theta sorority and the building honors Portland educator June Key, an administrator at the former Adams High School.
