FOREST GROVE, Ore. The 55-year-old Forest Grove man who was killed Monday morning when his wheelchair was hit by an SUV on Tualatin Valley Highway has been identified.

John Hacker was trying to cross the 3900 block of Pacific Avenue, also known as T-V Highway, when he was hit around 6 a.m., according to Captain Mike Herb of the Forest Grove police.

A witness said Hacker was crossing at a spot that was not a marked crosswalk or pedestrian crossing area. He made it across the eastbound lanes but was struck in the left westbound lane by the SUV driven by 68-year-old Donald Watts of Aloha.

The witness said the Hacker was wearing dark clothing and it was not light out yet at the time of the crash, which made it difficult to see him.

Hacker died at the scene, police said. Watts remained on the scene and was cooperating with authorities.

Herb said it did not appear that alcohol, drugs or speed was a factor in the crash.
