PORTLAND -- The Portland Winterhawks (14-4-1-1) fell 3-2 in overtime to the Victoria Royals (12-9-0-1) Saturday at the Moda Center in front of 9,097 fans.

Victoria struck first 25 seconds into the game on a goal by Austin Carroll, but the Hawks got that one back just 1:36 later when Taylor Leier tipped a Chase De Leo shot past Royals goaltender Coleman Vollrath to tie it at 1-1.

Victoria regained the lead at the 6:12 mark on a power play goal by Brandon Magee, and they took their 2-1 lead into the second period.

After a scoreless second, the Hawks controlled play through much of the third period and were finally rewarded when Oliver Bjorkstrand scored the tying goal at the 14:14 mark to make it 2-2.

It remained tied through the end of regulation to set up overtime, where Magee scored his second of the night 31 seconds into the extra frame to give the Royals the 3-2 win.

Brendan Burke made 33 saves on 36 shots in goal for the Hawks. Vollrath finished with 41 saves on 43 Portland shots.

The Hawks are back in action tomorrow when they host the Regina Pats at 5 p.m. at the Moda Center.
